Area Law Enforcement
Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Police state they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials state initial examinations suggest the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to its source; investigators are not yet aware of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have requested to the residents for tips.
An important representative stated the vandalism left him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a gunman targeting individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
